"From the food bank to making bank, #GIRLBOSS is the story of how I tried to escape capitalism—and ended up a CEO. At age 17, I was a dumpster-diving, shoplifting anarchist, but by 29, I'd turned Nasty Gal into a $100+ million business. #GIRLBOSS shares all the lessons I learned along the way." - Sophia Amoruso
Sophia Amoruso’s career trajectory is the basically the
blueprint for what all tumblr-generation would-be fashion CEO's dreams are made
of. Starting with an Ebay shop in 2006 her now global brand Nasty Gal turns
over a gross profit of 60%, just as much as the fashion industry’s biggest
players. Specialising in up to the minute street style and capitalising on ‘hipster’
trends, Amoruso has successfully adapted visual merchandising and applied it to
e-commerce to create a brand that has a cult following, due to an ethos she describes
as “empowerment”, “coolness” and “having your cake and eating it.”
If, like me, you
always wanted to know how to be as cool as Amoruso, look no further. As of the
6th of March you can get your hands on the online entrepreneur’s
first book #Girlboss, a guide through her journey from ‘sandwich artist’ at Subway
(yes that is what they really call
them, hilariously) to the top of her own multimillion dollar business.
Look out for the review here, late May.
